I am trying to build on my very limited vinyl jazz collection. I like my jazz traditional, for example four or five piece bands. Have as many recordings with trumpet and sax as I want for now.

I would like more piano, guitar, preferably with some great double bass in there. Already have a few Oscar Peterson records.

Can anyone suggest any albums or artists I might listen to.

Shropshire Borders,
if you want your jazz traditional, I assume you mean new Orleans style trad...

In which case, kid Ory, Sidney Bechet, or even British exponents such as Chris Barber, Saints Jazz Band.

Unless you mean Bebop, or perhaps modern jazz, in which case just about anything from the mid-late 50s and early 60s will fit the bill!

I love some of Alice Coltrane's work though some is admittedly "difficult." I love the "Ptah the El Daoud" album and particularly the track "Turiya And Ramakrishna;" some of the most beautiful jazz piano ever laid down in my opinion.

The album "Journey into Satchidananda" is a gorgeous, though somewhat experimental fusion of middle eastern, Indian and traditional jazz. Her harp playing is just sublime.

I have assumed that you don't mean "trad jazz" in the New Orleans sense, purely on the grounds of taste!

Great recommendations Wizzkid. Mingus and Ellington are two of my absolute favourites, particularly Ellington's suites.
