Whilst this year's charity hasn't been sorted, I wondered what you guys thought about having a record cleaning station this year to raise funds for whatever charities chosen.

I have use of my boss's van again this year and have both a Velvet Vortex and a Pro-Ject RCM I could chuck in the back. Happy to supply say a litre of L'art du son based liquid for the RCM and Ultrasonic juice + rinse (quick spray of rinse and a spin on the RCM for VV'd Records). Thought this might raise a few quid, plus give those without formal/decent cleaning facilities a chance to get their records cleaned.

As to pricing thought maybe 25p per Record for RCM & 40p for Ultrasonic.

Either someone manning it or an honesty pot.

So what's your thoughts guys n girls??

Good idea John ,but not worth doing for 25p , Got to be at least £2 each to make it worthwhile with a new vinyl sleeve ,

It IS FOR CHARITY

Think £2 is a bit steep, was looking and getting volume throughput rather than the odd one or two.

Maybe 50p RCM, 75p VV, and then 30p for a std antistatic sleeve & 50p for a mofi style sleeve.

As it's for charity, I'd say not to offer too many choices and overcomplicate it. Keeping it to round numbers makes it simple, but some people might not want a sleeve. I'd say 50p for RCM and a quid for ultrasonic. Mofi sleeves are just under £30 for 50 on Amazon so 50p is below cost.

Drying of an ultrasonic cleaned record could be an issue, takes a good hour on the rack unless the vac is used on the Moth. Maybe a fan heater (low setting!) could speed things up.

Great idea. Let's do £1 per clean to charity which is:

I would say £1 for ultrasonic as its a 6 minute process + a quick spin on the vac.

50p for a std wet-vac clean as this is only a 2 minute process so we can get a volume throughput.

I will also grab a batch of the lightweight sleeves from spincare (unless you can blag some) to sell if people want them for their newly cleaned records.

Can you sort a poster for this??

£1 Ultrasonic          Velvet Vortex

50p wet-vac            Pro-Ject VCS

30p each     Spincare Anti-static Sleeves

Hi Guys,

Happy to supply a second Velvet Vortex to support this charity record cleaning idea so perhaps more than one at a time can be cleaned.

I'll supply fluids for two or three velvet vortex if this goes ahead. This charity is close to our family.

I can't stand and work the machines as I have a room to exhibit in but happy to supply a bath to facilitate extra cleaning opportunity.

I'll do an hours shift if a group of people are helping as a team to clean records.

Any other way I can support let me know

You can use my USRCM as well if you like. Its similar to the VV.

I think Peter is right, 1 price, clean all with the US and rinse with the vac, sleeve them all, charge £1.50

£1.50 sleeved it is then.

With 4 ultrasonics (your USRCM, my VV + 2 VVs from Tim) and two wet-vac (mine & Tim's) for drying then we should have a pretty swift service operating.

@HiFiWigwam

Price for poster set.

£1.50 = Ultrasonic clean + rinse & Vacuum dry and New Antistat sleeve.

Whilst myself and Tim will supply sleeves is there any chance of you blagging some freebies from spincare?

That would be a nice price, I'll have a few needs cleaning. And if there are any nice ladies in Kegworth Town willing to provide a blanket bath, I'd pay a fiver for that  ;-)
