Big news -Vinyl shop opens on my local high street.

I went in and actually held and HEARD vinyl --just like in the 60's!!!

And the thought came to try a thread wherein LISTING of such shops could be made by whammerscustomers [not by the shops themselves ]

Sir James is informed of the idea.

Such shops were meeting places for hifi/ music addicts with basic seating and coffee etc. Some featured 'live' too- I an indebted to a lone sax player in such for convincing me re jazz.

[This thread may be in an inappropriate place in the forum]

My local is

'Tall Bird' Soresby St Chesterfield

Hey that's good to hear. Good thread Dave....!

We have a decent vinyl shop in central Scotland, Stirling town has a record shop called 'Europa Music', they've around 20,000 albums in stock, and a great jazz section!

They also make decent tea/coffee.

Piccadilly Records + Beat 'n Rhythm + Vinyl Solution + Eastern Bloc + Vinyl Revival - all in the Latin Qtr, Manchester.

Fat City used to be there to, but now relocated to Laaandan :x

Must have spent 1000's of hours browsing in these places over the last 30 odd years.

Thanks for the heads up on that. :^ I'm only 10 mins away from there and didn't realise it existed.

There's a great little shop in Nottingham called The Music Exchange, staffed by proper enthusiasts and really helpful.

Was in there recently & got a free doughnut. Top shop with a vast vinyl stock.

There's a shop in St Andrews on Market Street - up from Tesco.

Come on MallyMad post away!!!

Thanks Tel I did check this out with' hifi wigwam' . The changing situation on high streets , marketing ,and apparent dissatisfaction with some online buying led me to offer the thread having looked for one previously.

I may well not have done so if I'd known of the existing thread which eluded my earlier search .I did puzzle on where to place the thread but figured it was about ---2 channel --at the most basic source level so on it went.

Any mailings here could be morphed with the 2007 thread later if required.

OK then... Couple of good shops in Edinburgh. Ripping Records is a bit of an institution and there's some right trendy ones in Cockburn St. There was Avalanche in the Grassmarket as well but not sure if that's still open.

Norfolk - None!
Dunno about the whole of Norfolk, but there's bugger-all in Norwich that I know of. However, there are at least a couple or three good, well-stocked second-hand stores.

It doesn't happen though and this thread like many others will disappear and there will be no central resource.

Every time there is a thread like this I ask people to update the existing thread but no one ever does.

I would have thought the obvious place to have a thread about record shops would be in the Music Section.
