Right as coming to terms present (hifi will be later) for being laid off going to treat myself to a new mountain bike up to £600, l have tried the Specialized Rockhopper which was really nice, are there any others to consider at this price point? :)

PS Kona Cindercone 1995 in rough condition worth anything? :geek:

I know bugger all about mountain bikes, but the term 'comfort sausage' is wonderful.

Have some rep for inventing my fave phrase of the year so far. :)

Go second hand if you feel confident enough as mountain bikes suffer more depreciation than most cars in their first year.

For comfort, I have never found anything better than Gary Fishers bikes (currently have a 29er), coz I'm a lanky git (6' 4").

I advertise my pro calibre every 6 months. Then change my mind (again) :D

I like full sus these days, but the Rocky Mountain Slayer I have came covered in Hope and XT bits at £400 from eBay. One of them fandangly gravity dropper seat posts too, but that came off in favour of an Eastern carbon jobby. Upgrading bikes is deffo a f**k lot cheaper that changing HiFi.

Good to hear you are enjoying the bike! Use superstar components for brake pads - good quality and four pairs for £20! It's usually about £15 for one pair! Also worth upgrading your tyres when new ones are reqd - panaracer xcs are pretty good.

Hopefully as well you've discovered the wonderful world of chainreaction cycles as well. Cheap and fast delivery.

Enjoy and if you ever fancy taking it to Scotland let me know - I know tons of good riding.
