To see an improvement on those lovely old missions, the budget might be a bit low but if you become a VIP member with Richer Sounds, these would be perfect for £349

I’d second the QA3050, but if you want something like the old Missions there are a few used possibilities, like these 737s.

I had a pair of those back in the day. Not my best choice over the years. Better to look at the 782’s if sticking with mission under £300 but from experience and evolution, there isn’t anything better than the Q Acoustics. It’s quite a big room too.
The good thing when you buy new, you have 14 days to return if not liked. Buying used could be a minefield for the ops parents.

Ha, yes I agree. I was just imagining my aging Dad saying “Well, those don’t look like my old ones!”

But, as you say, the QA are a far better bet for the sound and support.
