Fancy tube rolling in my pre and I've spotted some of these at less than £40 a pair. Bargain ?

Any views gratefully recieved.

Thanks, Ian.

I've had two varieties of RFT ecc82. One of the best for bass control. Tight and natural sound. One of my favourite ecc82, this side of silly money. First pair I bought was from Tubedepot??? and it cost me about 65 USD.

Aren't rft the French tube company, they may have produced tele's under licence but I thought they usually did Philips designs?

rft are decent value, Philips owned a lot of labels, bit like emi, try RCA or tung sol from USA or some Japanese organ stock, both cheaper than euro labels and sound very good.

Personal fave is Siemens long plates but they are getting rare and pricey, otherwise amperex pre 67 are very musical and probably better balanced than telefunkens. Tried 802 tele, wow, but £400 pair while back.

Recently put 5 nos valves in £700 art audio 15 year old pre which sounded sublime, but valves cost more than pre, blew away £3k of new croft pre fitted with stock tubes.

Meant to say thanks for this chaps ! I will be trying the RFT along with some Mullards I've come across. Also messing around with the 6X4 (in the EE Minimax pre) having just ordered a Marconi.

Tube rolling is a mugs game, obviously ;-)

AFAIK -

RFT (Rundfunk und Fernmelde Technik) were an East German manufacturer making Telefunken copies.

RTC (La Radio Technique Compelec) made tubes (many as high quality Philips copies) in Suresnes, France.

Geek? Yes I know.

RFT also made Siemens copies especially EL34's.

And Siemens made a lot of Telefunken valves but no diamond on them.

After much rolling (stop laughing at the back) I personally use Siemens E82CC and Siemens ECC83's.

Wunderbah!! :^

Actually RFT made the EL34s sold by Siemens:) At least a lot of them. As far as the Siemens ecc82 and ecc83 are concerned - if you can get hold of the chrome plates ones - go for it!
