have a spare Cambridge amp, which I won't get round to selling for a bit, so will use that with computer in office for the meantime... Been interested to see posts about room correction/digital eq - was wondering if there was any software I could use to do this on my PC? Already have microphone etc...

The TacT/Lyngdorf dem I saw was controlled by software on a Laptop. The new latest version isn't, it's done in the amp.

If you can make it to Manchester this weekend, they will be at the HiFi show.

Surely EQ-ing and room correction for playing music off a computer is a bit like trying to polish a turd?

That surely depends on the quality of the sound card.

Anyway, who says that only the high-end stuff should benefit from room correction?

thanks. The softwaredoesn't seem to like my soundcard (or PC...or something...), but will have a play to try to get it working. Does this only play .wav files, or can you use the correction with flac files etc?

Now room correction and b&o, that would be polishing a turd :raoflmfao:Didn't they do sub/sat combos, which missed out an octave or so where the sub and sat crossed over

Not surprising. You have to look at what is actually doing the work in a Behringer or a TacT. It's usualy something like a SHARC processor. This is a chip designed specifically for manipulating digital audio. If your sound card doesn't have one, then it is unlikely to have the necessary power or features to do the parametric EQ required for room correction.

Yer standard Creative Audigy or whatever can't do it.

Thanks -- so in terms of sound card, I'd need a specialist one. I couldn't just use a basic Sound Blaster or M. audio card?

And yeah, I'm sure the b&o do make some decent speakers as well... would be slightly intimidated to have those things in the lounge though

sorry - wouldn't mean to slander b&o unfairly

Got my computer playing of the internal soundcard, and must admit it does sound kind-of poor

Will look for a decent soundcard or dac at some point...

Speaking of DACs - for those who still use MiniDiscs, then most decks (all the Sony one's I've come across) can work as a DAC. I've run a TOSLink optical cable from the onboard sound on my PC's motherboard to the Optical In input on my MD deck. By preassing 'Record' when there is no disc in, it will process any digital signal.

that's a thought - got an old sony md walkman

It's got USB input, but haven't been able to get it to work as a USB DAC - does work with optical, though...
