RuneAudio appears to be progressing well. v0.3 should be released soon and incorporates IQAudIO Pi-DAC support natively too.

I got my Pi-DAC working with Rune after following those instructions. I have not got the alsa mixer config in the mpd.conf working yet, but I only really need the DAC with a fixed maximum output. I've had the Pi and DAC running on random play for the last week to burn in, and I'll give it a listen today.

I have been using both Volumio and piCore player with my Pi so far

But at the cost of a few pounds, I just bought a new SD card to experiment the overall user experience with Rune including in the evaluation functional aspects such as USB disks auto-mount, mounting of Samba shares...
