I wish to resurrect a Quad 99pre that hasn't been used for about 5 years, but would like to check all is OK before it's connected to my main system. Assuming the pre needs to be connected to a power amp in order to make a circuit whilst being tested, is it OK to do this for a few hours without speakers connected to the power amp?

Thanks

If its solid state it will be fine but not sure what exactly you will be able to test except that it switches on and doesnt blow up after a few minutes. suggest you nip down your local crackconverters and get some cheapo £10 speakers to hookup for testing...

I have a couple of 8 ohm/ 10 watt resistors for this, Mind you, I'm usually checking valve amps.

Grab a speaker out an old bit of rubbish kit; TV, radio, dumped midi-system etc..
