Some songs really tug at the old heart strings even when you have no particular connection to them. Just listened to one of my favourite songs by Abba (knock them but that pair were on a par with Lennon & McCartney): 'Like an Angel Passing Through My Room'. There's something magical about the presense this track creates. The fast ticking of the clock, the closed-mic female vocal, the keyboard effects that build the melancholic atmoshere and the beautiful melody, combine to great effect and put a lump in my throat everytime I hear it.

Just jesting. I like abba in context too, and I luurrve sad songs, which is why I'm a big Jackson Browne fan, amongst others. I also bawl helplessly at films of all types!

The Maple Leaf Forever; Canada's unofficial national anthem and the regimental song of The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and The Royal Westminster Regiment.

Not a sad song, but it chokes me up every time.

The lyrics were politically corrected in 1997:grrr:Revisionist history:td:

TIU,

I agree with you upto the point of being on a par with Lennon & McCartney. L&M were one of the finest songwriters of the 20th century imho. On recordings then its a much closer thing - they were different eras and the recording techniques were far more advanced in the 70's. 'Like an Angel Passing Through My Room' is one of my fave Abba songs, but the Fab Four had 'She's Leaving Home'

Is it a musical shoot out at dawn, then?

it was on my list of funeral tunes as well, although I settled for a bit of humour and decided it would be "I am the resurection" by the Stone Roses :lmao:

Does not get any sadder or poignant to me.

Kate Bush : This Woman's Work

Pray God you can cope.

I stand outside this woman's work,

This woman's world.

Ooh, it's hard on the man,

Now his part is over.

Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things I should've said,

That I never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,

Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.

Give them back to me.

Give me that little kiss.

Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,

That were never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things that you needed from me.

All the things that you wanted for me.

All the things that I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.

Just make it go away now.

Duvet, yep a fantastic sonnet I agree. I actually find Corpus Christi Carol by JB as moving as Hallejuhah.
