Question Screening Of Speaker Cables

Is it usual or unusual for speaker cables to have screening against RF/EMF?

I've always thought it was a good idea to screen speaker cables but I've never experimented with them. Do they improve sound quality?
I think they should because of the amount of stuff zooming through our air waves.

The signal level is such in speaker cable that any RF/EMF would be swamped and would have little or no effect ….unless your speaker cables were running in parallel over a considerable distance with a high voltage mains cable.

Plug a speaker cable into your speaker and leave the other end disconnected. Now lay your mobile phone on top of the cable. Hear anything through the speaker?

Extremely unusual. I'm sure it's been done but it's a waste of time as discussed above.

Yep - very unusual and a waste of time & copper.

Screening a cable increases its capacitance - not a problem over a metre or so for interconnects but bad news for speaker cables.

Especially if you like treble…
