Short headphone cable - any need to worry about about gauge?

I've got a shiny new pair of Grados - they've got a 6.5mm jack and I'll normally be using them with a 3.5mm socket. Looks thinner than the (v chunky) cable on the Grados...but I don't think wire gauge is an issue with a short headphone extension. Unless I'm missing some unusual feature of headphones?

Unless you need the extra distance, you could just buy an adaptor socket to convert from 1/4 inch jack to 3.5mm. Wire gauge not very important, as the headphones run very low power.

Thanks - don't need the extra length, but looks weird to have a big adapter next to a dinky MP3 player
