Hello everyone. I'm looking at the slot loading Musical Fidelity M1 CD Transport. Is there any risk of scratching or damaging discs with this sort of mechanism and do they have any other advantages/disadvantages over a traditional drawer type? Thanks.

Not sure of any advantages but no risk of scratching car CD players have been using this type of mechanism for many years !

Usually the slot is lined with felt. However I have noticed with some of the very modern thin CD's that I have had the occasional disk get stuck on exit and needed help with a knife to lift it up. This is not on the MF product but the cocktail X10 which has a much cheaper plastic case, and is more to do with the drive alignment wrt to the front panel.

Probably there are more advantages than disadvantages in properl-working maintained player.

Many a drunken user has probably broken off their ejected drawer-tray.

Apart from ...., my only current slot is obsolete Sony PS3. I prefer solid metal Naim (or Linn which I never bought) swingers. I have about 27 ejecting-trays m-cs/a couple of other Sony lift-up-the lid things, and a 1984 Marantz proper original lift up the lid CD63B, and a couple of Amiga CD32 superb top-loaders.

So far, I have not snapped off an ejected tray.

Lots of valve-tube top-loading CDp look potentially nice, if purchased in vinyl-black.

I've used Pioneer 'dj' CD players, which are slot loading, for years. Never had any problems with them, or any discs scratched etc

If anything, they are a bit quicker to load/unload than a drawer type
