Good morning all. I have been thinking about upgrading my Zingali 2.06 speakers, I thought this might be a good place to ask as reading previous threads, I am aware some members have experience with Zingali speakers, and a few own them.

What has stopped me changing them is that I am not sure what would represent an upgrade. Ive not heard many speakers. Actually, very few. There are no dealers nearby and even the Zingali speakers were purchased without hearing. They were purchased for £3650, 6 years ago. They produce a very nice sound but was wondering what the better speakers could do better or would it be a case of more of the same at £3k - £4k preowned or £5-£6k new. Im not sure. My current kit is as shown in my profile.

Anyone have any ideas as to what price points would represent an audible upgrade?

Thank you kindly. Regards.

Dino, it would be helpful to know what it is you like about the Zingali's as well as what it is you want to improve.

Also useful to know would be the size of your listening room and how it is furnished as well as the type of music you listen to.

With 30 Watts in Class A to hand your options are huge.

I certainly couldn't recommend buying blind and at the sort of budget you are looking to use any dealer worth his salt would offer a home trial. There are also loads of dealers in London, start talking to a few.

Also keep your eye open for bake offs that you can attend and start listening to lots of different speakers.

if you are not in any great hurry then come to Scalford in March and hear loads of different types.

You need to get listening! I would never buy blind or on the advise of people you don't know, who don't know you, your musical tastes or your room.

Hi. Thanks . The listening room is 14 by 15 feet, so not on the large side. With good recording the Zingali speakers sound very good with great detail. With nice base. I think im looking for a more open sound.

Music ranges from rock ( light rock) to dance and pop. Most types with the exception of rap.

The room has real oak ( old floor) flooring and the room is lightly furnished . No heavy curtains or stuff like that.

Would a sub bring improvements? just a thought.

Thanks

No substitute for your own years. Two that have impressed me recently - the new Sonus Faber Venere 3.0 and the Golden Year Triton.

If you wish to continue with that special musical involvement that Zingalis have, you could have your speakers updated with the latest Zingali drivers for £750.This will give you a more open and faster sound, but the bass will still be limited by the 6" drivers.

The hi fi shop has both the Zingali Zero Otto and Deici for sale at a bargain price. The Deici would certainly give you more punch and may suit your musical tastes.Try to get a home demo as your room and ears have the final say.

Very hard, especially in a room which is nearly a small cube. Just as one option, in a room of that kind, I might think about some mid sized monitors and a sub? If you want tons of bass?

Hi thanks for the input. Im not really after tons of bass but realistic bass. The Zingali speakers certainly dont have boomy bass but when they reach low they can cause vibrations in doors etc. I was also thinking of mid sized monitors too. It seems its quite difficult to add a sub without problems with integration ( from what Ive read on the net) . Does not the sub just extend the bass from the main drivers? Ive read some articles that say all the base can be directed to the sub, but I cant see how without special equipment.

Thank you

Speak to Jack Lawson at the Music Room, the UK Zingali distributer on 0141 333 9700.He also owns the" hi fi shop" which are selling the x dem Ottos'

The later Zingalis' are ported in the base of the speaker and are relatively unfussy about room positioning.

just a thought , I haven't got a clue what the speakers you are after sounds like , but how about also listening to a set of tannoy dual concerntrics, get what ever you can afford I , have a set of big dmt 12 tannoys and they sound great with music in them , but have used them a couple of times for quiet loud folk music at a folk club , .

I do wonder if a lot of hifi speakers is very hyped up towards the dealers profit , ????

just a thought , but a lot of expensive speakers seem to have toy town , bass speakers and also tweeters..

Hi dino, have you thought about building a pair, with your budget you could literally buy every premium component available, cabinet and crossover calcs, all you then need is a reputable cabinet maker and believe me, you would be glad you did it.

Hi. Thats a great idea. A few years ago I looked at kits on the net. It looked beyond my skills. If only I knew a reputable cabinet maker . Any chance of some pointers as to where I could buy the parts or cabinet makers. Im in no rush so have lots of time to look into things.

Thank for your input. It is very much appreciated.

Yep, I visited a very helpful chap in Gloucestershire a few months back...a dealer of cables and an ex Wammer. Someone else will remember his name and/or business name, but him and his colleague also make up speakers based on the top end Tannoys (which he had in his living room). Beautiful craftsmanship.

According to your profile you live in London. Is that correct? If it is then go and visit some dealers and listen to some speakers, then ones you like ask if you can have a home demo. For 3-4k pounds you have a large selection to choose from including actives.

The problem with diy speakers is their poor resale value and difficulty in reselling. The fact that you are a wammer concludes that you are or will be a box swapper.Your Zingalis' still have a very good resale value.

Just out of curiosity, what speakers do you have?
