I'm new here and not a true teccy - more like an enthusiastic amateur!

Just bought a pair of KT120 Icon MB30 mono blocks after spending a few hours in Leicester with David Shaw. They sound so natural to me. I listen to vinyl, mostly stuff from the sixties and seventies - afraid I am old enough to have bought them first time around.

I'm not new to valves, I upgraded from my ten year old WAD EL 84 kit which I used with Ruark Talisman, very civilised but missing the bottom octave so I use a REL sub. The Ruarks sound OK with the new amp but typical of type I think there may be speakers that can reveal more of what the new amp has to offer. Listen through WAD phono and pre amp. Now I'm looking for a sensitive full range speaker - floorstanding but less than 1m tall.

Any ideas - could spend £3,000 or so

Something from Fostex or Lowther maybe, any reason you want full range drivers?

My terminology is probably inaccurate - what I mean is speakers that won't need a sub to get down to a realistic bass - rather than single driver full range

For that budget your options (especially s/h) are pretty much limitless.

Get yourself off to a few bake-offs and see what floats your boat.

With 16Wpc in triode mode you are going to struggle to find a speaker with seismic bass no matter what the budget.

What speakers did you audition them with?

I don't think seismic bass was a requirement.

Full range without a sub means 20Hz to me, you will struggle to achieve that with 16Wpc into conventional speakers.

Nice to get so many replies from a first post. Not after seismic bass - 20Hz subjectively would be fine - I find I listen mainly in ultralinear mode rather than triode, which gives me 27 watts per channel or so - also prefer to buy new - so ..... hope that helps!

David Shaw's demo room has his Kingsound speakers - 8" mid/bass plus HF as I recall - efficient and full sounding - loved acoustic and electric bass on them

If they were the speakers that made you buy the amps why not get a pair?
Because they are pushing 2m tall and he wants summat under 1m. AN-E fit the bill nicely, but I would say that :)
