Anyone had any experience of this product or others from the the brand - looks good and great but limited reviews. I'm looking for an analogue pre, and this fits the criteria of form , function , price etc. Apparently better known in the pro world but not as analytical as others from this sector. Could be a good match for my T+A power amp. For some reason I thought they were Chinese but they are in fact a German company.

It looks similar to the T+A products I have, that also happen to be German, so would certainly match aesthetically - even the same size. And has XLR and RCA outputs so I could connect my sub and power amp. Nice looking thing for sure. There are a couple of positive reviews out there but guessing it's relatively obscure - certainly in the UK.
Funnily enough I was looking at a similar looking product from T+A but that's twice the price, and I don't need another dac, just the preamp.

Here's a pic of the T+A ...

I recall coming across the SPL Phonitor when researching headphone amps a couple of years back. They seemed to have a strong following on headfi.

But I haven't heard one, so on reflection, this probably isn't the most helpful post I've ever sent.

Not even sure if this will work for me know. I need two Pre outs as I need one for the power amp (preferably XLR) and one for my active Subwoofer.

I enquired if I could use both outputs on the Elector and this is the response I got (very quick response actually which is always very good sign of well run company) and this was the reply...

the RCA out is a direct out, it is not volume controlled. If your subwoofer has an slave out, please connect left and right to your subwoofer and then your amp to the slave out L and R to your subwoofer.

I must confess I don't understand this message, does this mean I can connect my sub or not?

Can anyone advise please

thanks

Ray

I own the SPL Director MK II and I‘m very happy with it. If you don‘t need an integrated DAC, SPL Elector is the way to go (never compared the two). The latest SPL Director Mk II have a switch, so you can decide, if RCA out is direct out or volume controlled. I heard, that SPL is planning to add this feature also for the SPL Elector (call SPL directly if and when this option is available).

Thanks Ben (sorry only just spotted your reply)
I don't need a DAC - the reason for the Elector is to give my T+A DAC a separate pre amp instead of using the built in one.
As it happens the good guys at Audiologica are arranging to have the demo model modified by the distributer so I can use the RCA pre out to hook up my subwoofer. (See above for the response to my enquiry about the pre outs) This is a great service as there is still no obligation to buy.
Apparently as they are made to order you can order with the variable Pre out for use with a sub. Hopefully I will have that here to demo in a couple of weeks or so.
I will post my findings ...
