Hi Folks

What is it with playlists on the Duet? How can I make one? I have the latest software installed and up to date, but all of the explanations on the net seem to be garbage, as far as creating playlists go. Do other flavours of the OS make it easier, or did this never work. Soooo. If anybody can explain it, and I have OS version 7.7.2 r9663 on the handset; then I would be grateful.

Cheers

I use a S'box Duet, but don't use the standard controller, I use iPeng (App store) loaded onto both my iPad & phone, so much convenient/handy.

I rip to iTunes then use the iTunes folder for my music and create the playlists in iTunes. The iTunes playlists automatically worked on both the Duet and the Touch. I'm not sure how this would work if you don't use iTunes.

Similarly the playlists that I create in Spotify transfer to the PS Logitech Music Server interface on my laptop.

Have you considered trying a tablet/smartphone as a controller Adam? You would find navigation of your library a lot slicker/more responsive & using any of the decent controller Apps available, stuff like compiling lengthy playlists is really easy. I've heard way too many negatives re the Duet controller.......although everyone says the player is pretty good. You can also run Squeezebox emulations on Tablets/Phones that effectively turn them into a portable player with S.B. functionality. An i-pod touch running i-Peng also makes a good S.B. controller & could be had for around £50 s/hand.

I see Pete got there first with i-Peng:^

Failing eyesight, I use the laptop. I tried an app on my android phone but it was easy to use the laptop as it is always on when in the house, plus the screen is larger.

I believe the ipeng app is very good and used by many in preference the Squeeze controller on the Duet, whose battery goes flat very quickly.

A 7inch Tablet is a great size for use as a SB controller & even in portrait orientation everything is very easy to read. I use a Google Nexus 7 32GB & used Squeezebox Commander when I was running SBT's. 7" Tablets are also a great size for use as a kindle e-book reader + loads else besides......some nice looking Tablets are starting to appear sub £150 now.

I'll charge my old one up and report back how you do it. It definitely works but its been a while since I used the controller and I can't remember the method

Can you access Spotify as well as playlists on the ipeng and Squeezebox commander?
Can't help re spotify Pete as I dinnae use it. I'd have thought so tho' someone will know fo' sure. Yeah though re SB Commander you can access any saved playlists just by scrolling down the main menu to the playlists folder. TBH tho' with a tablet + decent control app putting together extensive playlists on the fly is super easy. This is mostly the way I tend ter go these days & I haven't used a saved playlist for ages. I tend to find I get far deeper into my collection than ever before now that navigation is so much easier/nicer.

Xscooze any typos......I'm on t' tablet now.

Nice to see there's life after Windowsserver2012gate Mark, that wuz quite a mauling at t' hands of the tinfoil hat brigade.........Hope you haven't taken it to much ter heart & that you shan't let it undermine yer confidence.

Wow! Thanks so much for the feedback. You are making sense with the playlists. I wondered how the One Direction  playlist turned up. Asked my daughter and she shrugged her shoulders. itunes. Has to be. Really annoying cos as a transport, sounds mighty fine. Build a PSU, even better. Much to like. I will investigate the Apple app stuff, and see what comes of that. I use my Samsung S3 with Squeezebox Official app, and also Squeezer for Android. Neither work well with playlists.

Right! Alluded to is itunes. Found that if you create Playlists in itunes then the Squeezebox software picks up and imports the playlists. Complicated? Yep. Works? Yep. Thanks for all of your assistance.
