Good morning all on this lovely sunny day!

I have rather foolishly stripped the thread on my cartridge, are there any refurbishers out there who could re cut the threads for me and provide the new oversize screws?

As always, any advice offered will be greatly appreciated.

The biggest issue with drilling the cartridge and rethreading is the larger diameter bolt you'll need, which may not pass through the slot in the headshell.

Paul's suggestion is the way I'd go. Drilling to remove what thread is left may be a good idea, but may not be necessary.

Unfortunately there is not enough room for a nut on the underside of the cart as the cart body lies flush with the screw hole. :x

So, can you glue a short length of M2.5 threaded bar into the cart (Araldite would do it) and use a nut on the end that would then protrude through the headshell slot?

Perfect, apparently.

I would imagine drilling a cartridge is in wooly jumper territory for most people; not likely to end well. :nerves:

I see you have a Audiomods arm, why don't you contact Jeff at Audiomods and see if he can do something. He has an excellent set of tools to build the arms so might be able to sort something.

If I had bought the arm new I would consider it, but feel it's a bit cheeky when I am the second owner and didn't actually put any money in Jeff's pocket.

Fair enough but he might do it for some money in his pocket if you can't find anyone else. Dominic at Northwest Analogue also has a good rep.

Is the thread totally stripped or just slightly dammaged? If the latter, you may be able to clean it up by carefully re-cutting with the correct sized tap.

hi mike, I stripped it, but have managed to get a larger screw in it, but of course I now have2 different size screws in the cart and I am concerned that it will cause an imbalance. I don't know what size the large screw is but it is obviously larger than the normal cart screws.

I'd not worry about it. The amount of difference in twisting force applied by the subsequent difference in weight on either side of a 5/8" (ish) headshell at the end of a 9"+ arm is going to be so small as to be inconsequential. Of course it would be the same in a perfect world.

It is possible you may need to adjust tracking weight.
