OK so I downloaded the new Joy Division "Closer" HDTRacks 24 Bit 192 Khz files last night (using July04 15% discount and I am UK based - paid with Paypal OK).

I have a Squeezebox Touch with the EDO mod connected via Mark Grant co-ax to a Beresford Bushmaster DAC.

The 24 Bit 192khz works and the album sounds good - better than expected (although it comes with the 2007 live bonus tracks - the main album is clearly not the compressed 2007 master).

The only thing is playing via the Touch connected wirelessly to my PC - the tracks often stutter for a brief second - usually in the first 30 seconds or so of the track - the rest of the track plays fine.

Is this a wireless thing - I have never had any problems with wireless hiccups playing 16Bit 44khz or 24Bit 96Khz.

If I put the Joy Division files onto a USB memory stick and put this into the Touch they play fine with no hiccups.

Going wired with my network is not something I want to do at the moment (especially not for just one album).

Is there something clever I can do to the settings on the Touch to make it better able to cope. I have noticed in the past that if I play 24Bit 192khz it plays OK until I start browsing other albums via Squeezebox Commander on my tablet. It is almost as if there is not enough processing power when playing 24Bit 192khz.

Any ideas ?

Squeezebox stuttering is caused by a bottleneck somewhere in your system. It can be wireless networking, particularly if you have a lot of devices connected, or a crap router (step forward BT Home Hub! :x ). It can also be caused by bottlenecks on the server PC, particularly if the music is stored on a USB drive.

I don't get this with 24/192 tracks on my own EDO mod Touch. I have a wired network.

However I don't hear any benefit to 24/192 so my suggestion is to downsample to 24/96 and not worry about it.

Thanks guys - in fact I think I have just found a solution - funny how when you write down your problem it gives you ideas.

I decoded the flacs I downloaded back to wavs (using flac frontend).

I then put just 9 wavs for the 9 original tracks into another folder and tried playing these instead.

Playing the flacs wirelessly - no stuttering - jobs a good un' !

I guess decoding the flacs was giving the Touch too much to do. I have plently of space on my 2GB drive so I am not to worried about the files taking up more space.

The processor on the Touch isn't up to much. You are probably asking too much of it. You can set the decoding to be done on your pc.

Mine buffered all the time on full wireless. It works fine on wireless to router and cable from router to Touch though.
