Further to my previous post....
Upgrade advice please
I've been giving it more thought!... and after listening to a friends set-up...
i-tunes loss-less
V-Dac DAC
Quad 33/303 pre/power
Quad 57 ESL
I liked the sound of this set-up, but the speakers are too wide for my room and the amp doesn't have a remote for volume!
So, after a bit of research I'm contemplating the following, but also have questions!...
Firstly, I've realise (derr!) that I need to change from Spotify to a streaming service that offers better quality; probably Tidal.
Secondly, if I go with Tidal, my CXN doesn't support this, so would need one that does, but don't know what would be suitable
Thirdly, if I go electrostatic, I'll probably need another amp; not sure if my Unico Primo will be suitable? I can only find the output @ 8ohms (80w) not 4 ohms.
Quote from Martin Logan Forum...
“An electrostatic speaker can dip down to less than 1 ohm in resistance, which many amplifiers cannot tolerate. An amplifier that doubles it's output when the resistance is cut in half (ie 250w @ 8 Ohms / 500w @ 4 Ohms, etc. ) is a good indicator that the amp is well built and stable.”
My initial thoughts...
Option 1...
Tidal
New streamer – Tidal compatible?... don't know what: suggestions please?
DAC – thinking stand alone rather than using built in so easier to swap as required: RME ADI-2 DAC FS, Chord Qutest?
Speakers – Martin Logan electrostatic; probably “Clarity” as I don't want one of the really tall sets!
Amp – something suitable for the speakers, not sure... Simaudio?
Option 2...
Tidal
New streamer – Tidal compatible?
DAC – RME ADI-2 DAC FS, Chord Qutest
Amp – keep Unico Primo
Speakers – Martin Logan Motion 20i
Option 3!...
New streamer / amp – Gato DIA 250S?
Speakers – Martin Logan electrostatic?
Current set-up...
Spotify
CXN
Audio Analogue CDP, also using DAC for CXN
Unico Primo
Neat Iota Alpha.
I'd be looking to buy “pre-loved” to keep costs down!
Thoughts/recommendation greatly received.
Cheers
