yes there were some superb deals on them but now harder to get from what i hear . Strangely i had martin logan summit x , then some verity audio and the tannoy eaton legacy have stayed for over 4 years beating my time with the logans . They sound awesom with pass F5 monos , superb with sugden a21se . they image so well and are just so natural . they beat the pants off some harbeth shl5plus

we had a bit of a get together with them and the Thrax enyo and WOW ..... what a combination !!!!!

I heard the Tannoy Eatons at the same time as Bob and have to say that I was not over impressed either . But I will admit that they responded to amplifier changes quite a bit and i do not think we had or used a great match for them . I would like to hear them in a well put together system with an amplifier that works well with them and that may well change my views . I doubt Bob would ever be impressed as he says Tannoys have never really been his thing . I would really love to hear a well fettled original and period pair against the current new crop as my only other experience of Tannoys were a 1970,s model which I liked a lot powered at that time by a Leak TL 12 pair and ss pre (which I can not remember) and they sounded superb but were way too expensive for me in those days.

there are often discounts on hi fi products . I only got mine by chance , the dealer was delivering a high end integrated and had the tannoy eatons legacy in the boot . He said do you want to try them ? At the time one was in possession of SHlplus which i couldnt get to work . We plugged these well run in things in and they were VERY good indeed. Needless to say a pair was ordered . since then they have had about 30 amps tried with them and most were brilliant . Even class D sounds good . the advantage with them is they are adjustable to the room .

They easily beat focal diablo utopia for naturalness and bass , they just boogie . I have mine biwired with monoblocks [ first watt F5 clone] you can listen for hours and hours to them . As we know speakers are individual taste but they can sound very good . They certainly do organ music well and electronica . the bass is substantial if you want it .

The tonality of the Eaton is also absolutely exceptional. The crossover between the mid-range driver and the tweeter is low at 1.2kHz giving it a lot of work to do but it never seems under any strain. Voices and instruments sound natural and are smooth and free of any signs of harshness or aggression. The Naim Supernait2 I use for the bulk of test work is a far cry from Naim amps of old but it can still be provoked with some speakers. This is utterly unlikely to happen with the Eaton which is completely unflappable even when you throw a poor recording at it and dial up the volume. This is an exceptionally composed speaker under pretty much any condition – and even if you did dial up the volume, you have the option of rolling off the HF output slightly.

Above all these things is a sense of weight and presence with everything you play. This needs to be qualified as slightly different to outright bass extension. Make no mistake, the Eaton has no shortage of bass under pretty much any condition – that 40Hz figure is effortlessly bettered in this room – but where the Tannoy truly excels is with the point where the lower mid-range becomes bass. Without sacrificing control or integration, the Eaton has a level of grunt here that makes most rivals seem anaemic. The string section in Flynn Lives on the TRON: Legacy soundtrack swells with an energy and sheer heft that really can only be achieved by a large driver in a large cabinet.

Speakers are such a personal thing. I like Tannoy and they offer a full range sound which is important for me.
Hifi madness, on eBay, which is Audio Affair, were offering discounts on the Legacy range. Looks like they will accept offers on them.
