http://www.amazon.com/Muchacho-Phosphorescent/dp/B00AYR2FPM/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t]phosphorescent - muchachol beautiful melodies, haunting, timeless.

http://www.amazon.com/Graceless-Age-John-Murry/dp/B00EV524U4/ref=tmm_vnl_title_0'>John Murry- the graceless age . dude came from nowhere and blew my mind. sad, desparing.... and fantastic

http://www.amazon.com/Southeastern-Jason-Isbell/dp/B00CCEHUAU/ref=tmm_vnl_title_0'>ason Isbell- Southeastern i compare this album in every way to one of my desert island discs - ryan adams heartbreaker. both left great bands at the pinnacle of their popularity, both got fucked up on drugs and alcohol, sobered up and handed the world the best albums of their careers. Jason Isbell is a force to be reckoned with. Truly a mindbendingly good album. speechless.

http://www.anticon.com/item/obsidian'>baths- obsidian - hooks and lyrics to die for set on a soundbed of blips and bleeps? genius.

http://www.amazon.com/Pale-Green-Ghosts-John-Grant/dp/B00ANT2FGU/ref=tmm_vnl_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1388565335&sr=1-1'>John Grant- pale green ghosts the guy is clearly a genius...and that voice of his. wow. it is as if he has created this genre to fit his lyrics. .

http://www.amazon.com/Pushin-Against-A-Stone-Vinyl/dp/B00D3ZJDRA/ref=tmm_vnl_title_0'>Valerie June - Pushin Against A Stone

This record takes a little bit of everything the southern music scene has

to offer, cooks it into a steaming gumbo and drives your ears to excstasy(sp bu \t fuck it)

http://www.lastchancerecords.com/john-moreland-in-the-throes-vinyl-lp/'>John Moreland- in the throes lyrically deep, crafted using the philosophy of less

is more to co=nvey emotions that cut to the core. I heard truth is whatsongs are for. Nobody gives a damn about songs anymore. is just one of

many haymakers John throws on the record. In The Throes is musically

stripped bare, much like the emotions John wrings out of his songs. Playing

nearly every instrument, John doesn t rely on other musicians to bring his

lyrics to life, instead his playing provides the space for the lyrics to

have the greatest impact much in the manner that Springsteen did on the

classic Nebraska. Pour yourself a stiff drink, turn the lights down low,

and give your demons hell.

.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Coincidentalist-MP3-Howe-Gelb/dp/B00E9JLQGA/ref=tmm_vnl_title_0'>Howe Gelb - the Coincidentalist ...a tour de force, a pivotal record for the Giant Sand founder. jumping from genre to genre with a guest list as varied as the songs(steve shelley from sonic youth, m ward, bonnie prince billy), reverb laden hazy foundation that gives just the right amount of room for Howes vocals. incredible.

http://www.amazon.com/Dream-River-Bill-Callahan/dp/B00E1SJDJG]Bill Callahan - Dream River. the daddy of seminal sadcore band SMOG makes his best album yet. the album Kurt Wagner(lampchop) wishes he could make. Callahan is such a brilliant story teller. those lyrics, man.... wow.

http://threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/wooden-wand-the-world-war-iv'>Wooden Wand & The World War IV. self tited neil young meets dock boggs meets psychadelia meets drugs and alcohol meets roky ericson- james jackson toth is very much bringing to mind Neil . this is a wonderful album!

honorable mentions- The Replacements SONGS FOR SLIM EP. Why EP here? because it is the fucking replacements. thats the only answer needed!

http://songsmolina.bandcamp.com/album/songs-molina-a-benefit-compilation-for-jason-molinas-survivors - a record paying tribute to Jason Molina, the founder of magnolia electric company, songs:eek:ha, and a dear friend of mine. He passed earlier in 2013 of alcohol induced organ failure. just a great, great guy and such a talent, peerless as a friend...

Some great choices here ...... I have most of these, the others I will check out. Not sure about Valerie June, saw her supporting Jake Bugg and she can sound majestic one minute and like a cat on heat the next ...... will be interested to see where she goes next.

Your comparison of Southeastern and Heartbreaker is spot on :^

John Murry was my favourite gig last year ............. he pushes himself to the edge, just hope he doesn't go over.

Not very surprisingly I have albums by most of these artists, wasn't aware of the new Wooden Wand album, the last one I have of theirs is Blood Oaths of the New Blues.

Mind you I probably shouldn't use the plural as Wooden Wand is James Jackson Toth.

I must give John Moreland a try, a new name to me.

Thanks TR

Nice one TR. I can always rely on you to pick a few new gems.

I have heard half of them and agree they are all worthy of the top ten. That Bill Callahan album is something else though, left me in stunned silence. In my top three for the year for sure.

Yep, nice on. Totally agree with the Jason Isbell and John Moreland - great albums both and Moreland definitely has that Nebraska era Springsteen vibe, excellent.

Can i throw in a vote for William Tyler's lovely Impossible Truth album too, fantastic guitar instrumentals half way between John Fahey and Jimmy Page's Bert Jansch inflected stuff.
