After a couple of years off the bike, I finally got round to insuring them yesterday. Had a couple of hours tinkering tonight which is just as well, as the bandit fuel line is fucked. That's now tomorrow night's job. Real PITA it is too because the fuel pipe goes right in the middle of the carbs, and the air box makes it a real shit to get at. I eventually found a way through the back of the box just enough to get on the jubilee clip.

The XJR cost me a new battery, but as usual is running bloody lovely. With a bit of luck it will be heading out on Sunday with the lad and me on board.

Hope the weather holds. :upgrade:

I've seen it now mate. But I can't possibly have another. :(

Cool - glad to hear you got them back on the road.
Can't wait Sam. My lad has been wandering round in full leathers all night. I think he's missed it too.

Nice one Rick - have fun! :^

My Blackbird's in bits at the moment (well it has no front end). Hit a pot hole a couple of weeks ago whilst hard on the brakes due to some prick in a Range Rover, on my side of the road on a l/h bend. I ended up in the verge hard on the brakes - 'bang' from the front end. First thought was I'd dinged the front wheel rim but it just notched the headstock bearings and blew a fork seal.

I'll have it fixed and back together by monday - then the weather'll turn to rat sh*t. :D

Just been washing my VFR750 - will be first ride of the year due to sciatica probs. Hope I'm not picked up on tax. Couldn't find the MOT cert so ordered new tax disc on line this morning.

Had my first ride in over 2 years yesterday when I took the XJR for MOT. Can't do the Bandit yet. Started it up yesterday to go and fill up the fuel tank, no back brake. Seized solid as a bastard! so that's a strip down before it goes anywhere.

I managed to get the XJR mot'd and taxed though. Had a short ride on it late last night and I quickly remembered why I bought it  .

I'm out again later when I cool down a bit. Been working up til now, out in the sun complete with brush cutter. Found 2 Bees nests, both by accident, and they are not happy with me at all :nup: .

Went for a spin just this morning with a group of guys I met in the village pub. We'd popped in for a burger last weekend, but I had to stop and look at the bikes outside in the sun.

We got talking, and I was asked if I'd like to go for a ride I made my excuses - no bike, haven't ridden more than a few kms since being here, but I was told it was no problem, there was a bike I could borrow.

So yesterday a couple of vans pull in to the drive, packed with bikes and riders. Out came a real mix of new and older, exotic and (relatively) normal, from a week-old Ducati Panigale 1199 to a BMW K1 (remember them?). And for me? A 'vintage' 1991 GSXR1100 looking pretty much as it left the factory. It was almost completely stock, with just a Yoshi pipe, and an airbox and jet kit to help it breathe.

We were all very well behaved. The Duke was being run-in so no heroics there (other than not slowing up for a corner - ever, it seemed), and the GSXR belonged to the Duke owner. Certainly no silliness from me! I may have reached 120km/h at one point (blanket 100km/h limit with harsh penalties for speeding). But it was fabulous. We did a little under 200km with stops for tea and lunch, travelling the coast road via Kaiaua to Thames, then back via Drury. (I appreciate the places won't mean much to most people.)

The GSXR may be up for sale towards the summer. :-D (It's mid-winter here at the moment.)

No pics as my camera was in Mrs gjm's car. :( Another time.

'91 will have been the J possibly K Slingshot I believe - reputation as being brutal back in their day but one of the best looking machines of the time I reckon.

Still have a soft spot for them (especially in black/silver) and have an occasional look for them on eBay thinking I could get one for the price of a service and tyres on my S1000 !

Sounds like you've met some genuinely nice lads out there - that makes all the difference.

Pics next time!!!

I imagine the population density is a lot lower in NZ allowing more fun on the roads. Would love some video of the Duke if ever you get the chance. Would be interesting to see the roads there too.

I was in Ashbourne last week browsing the antique shops, and there among the Georgian tables, chest of drawers etc. were half a dozen vintage British classics, all looked in tip top condition a red road rocket,a blue shooting star,(I think) a couple of Triumph tritons,a Triumph daytona, and a Douglas flat twin, dragonfly if my memory serves me well.

I could never afford any of these as a lad,and doubt if I could now.

This was an 'M', but yes - the good colour scheme. Black & silver. The '92 11WN was last of the air-cooled motors, but essentially the same as the 'M' with cosmetic revisions, including the less attractive graphics.

The 1990 'L' was arguably the best 100. It was 16kg lighter than the M or N, but otherwise pretty much the same bike. By the time they have a pipe and induction kit there's nothing to choose.

Good ones over here are $3-5000. Or there is a Bimota SB6 for $12k...

Definitely the right time to get back out :^

After 18 months 'making do' with a '98 Fireblade, it was time to buy a proper bike again. I've had an SP-1 and SP-2 before, and loved every mile. I spotted this for sale locally. It's by far the best SP-1 I've seen for a long time, and I couldn't resist:
