Ok, so over the weekend I got my grubby mitts on a dirty looking 124 Mk2, so I thought I would start this thread for owners to post ideas, mods, pics and info about them.

Here is mine as I got it home..

Now after a quick clean up....

I'm planning of ditching the top platter and using a gunmetal matt instead, I have some vibration absorbing feet I found in Munich which I have tried the motor unit sat upon without a plinth to great success.....

I've a birch ply plinth, new mounting 'mushrooms', ptfe thrust pad and a new drive belt on their way and I'll be adding a 9'' Ortofon TA-110 tonearm and a brace of SPUs. Can't wait! More photos as bits and bobs turn up....

PS, don't fret, I have no commercial connection to the Thorens 124, it's purely an itch I fancied scratching. :)

Tis Richie, motor and strobe wont turn off but reading a service manual points to a pretty easy fix, 33.3 seems to run pretty steadily, I can't get 45 to lock on the strobe so need to look in to that...

By the look of it the original owner hasn't used it very much at all.

Been fiddling again, the platter needed centralising, looks like the motor continuously running is due to a shagged capacitor. I've ordered one.. cost is pence. :)

Loving the floral plinth. Hope you're keeping that.:thumbup:Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk 2
I'm going to put it on eBay, I'm sure it could be modded to accept your SP10.... :^

Nice find Jack! The top platter and Thorens arm + armboard should pay for a fair amount of upgrading - it's worth checking the suppressor which are often bulging / shot:

The silicone motor suspension grommets work well, beware of replacement idler wheels - They are very hit and miss

You got it Matt, the suppressor has wet itself all over the place.

I have held off on motor grommets, where can you find the silicone jobs?

Nice find, Jack.

Frankly, having ticked the 301, 401 and SP10 boxes (well, half-ticked the latter anyway...) I can't help feeling it must be time to give a 124 a go myself. I shall watch its progress with great anticipation!

I'm surprised you haven't got a few in the collection Adam, check under the pile... :D

Thumb twiddling time now, waiting for various things to arrive from various parts of the world before I can get to work play ..... :x
