It has become a bit of a tradition for me and a few of my mates to produce an end of year personal top 10 albums list.

Even though we all have different tastes, seeing other's lists is often a great way to discover new music, so I would hereby like to lay down the challenge for all you Wammers (many of whom I know listen to some great music).

I have shortlisted mine, but with a few weeks of the year left, you never know if something might still come along to take one of the 10 places, so I'll be posting my top 10 list around Christmas.

Thought I'd start the thread off though, so for those interested in sharing, you have a bit of time to start compiling your list.

Only rule is we all have to be polite about each other's choices, even if you still firmly believe nothing good has been released since about 1979... :)

Some years I'd struggle to think of 10 albums, but not this year. It's been a great year for music.

My head says number one should be The Smile. I'm a massive Radiohead fan and the album is up there with some of their best. However, my heart says different.

2022 belonged to one band. An album I had high hopes for after hearing their first single over a year earlier, and one that did not disappoint. 12 perfectly crafted, catchy, witty, rude pop-rock anthems about modern life as a young woman. The tonic 2022 sorely needed, and absolutely deserving of its runaway success...

1. Wet Leg - Wet Leg

Wet_leg_debut.jpeg

2. The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention
3. Black Country New Road - Ants From Up There
4. Dry Cleaning - Stumpwork
5. Yard Act - The Overload
6. Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
7. Suede - Autofiction
8. Jack White - Entering Heaven Alive
9. Horsegirl - Versions Of Modern Performance
10. Bjork - Fossora

Sacred Skin – The Decline Of Pleasure
Favourite album by a country mile is the debut from Sacred Skin. If you're not a fan of early 80s synthpop and new wave, then this is your worst nightmare: Flock Of Seagulls synthlines, Peter Hook bass lines, touches of Peter Gabriel, and some of the glam of Duran Duran. Lush, romantic, and brilliantly catchy from start to finish; just close your eyes, and you'll be on a Californian beach watching the sunset and playing air guitar. Guilty pleasure extraordinaire.

Best of the rest:

Pablo Bozzi – Street Reign
Bozzi has released 3 EP's this year of his italo-influenced techno, and this is my favourite of a really upbeat trio.

Statiqbloom – Threat
Industrial techno. All their previous releases have been straight electro-industrial, but having relocated to Berlin, they've taken their pulsating claustrophobic sound into the field of techno.

Forever Grey – Sympathy Garden
Minimal post-punk, with coffin vocals; stoic and depressing.

The Soft Moon – Exister
Abrasive post-punk verging towards industrial in places.

Dodsmaskin – Herremoral Slavemoral
Norwegian death industrial, bits of dark ambient experimental and noise; atmospheric and bludgeoning.

Buzz Kull – Fascination
EBM, new beat, minimal synth.

Of the mainstream stuff, the choice would be Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cool It Down; the most consistent album they've done so far, with a bit more of a mature sound. Suede Autofiction was decent as well, they've still got it.

Playlist:
Tracks 1-4: quite poppy, dark-tinged/melancholic
Tracks 5-8: post-punk
Tracks 9-14: techno, goth/industrial dancefloor, EBM
Tracks 15-18: noise, experimental, industrial metal

I was just about do a similar post but see there is one already.

2022 has been an awful year for new music for me. Struggling to find anything I like. There have been the odd blues album but little else, finding a top 10 will be difficult.
Many of the above albums I don't know, so will try later.

This is a great looking list.

My music focus these days gets more and more minimal and chilled, so this selection is pretty much going to be the antithesis of my end of year list. Loads of artists I've never heard of, but will definitely be trying some of this out.

And how could I not with descriptions like 'pulsating claustrophobic techno'!!

Great work @Sheva (y)

p.s. based on your description and style preferences, I can potentially recommend the band Working Men's Club if you've not come across them.

I will start off with these 2, these are my top 2:

1671024313584.jpeg

Last Night in the Bittersweet

Paolo Nutini

Scottish singer/songwriter, this album is 8 years after his last and probably his best.

1671024617283.jpeg
Elles Bailey. Female British blues singer, her previous album was good, this is stronger still.

Others will be posted later when I can find them. Beware some maybe Jazz and Alt Country.

I'm going to struggle with just 10, just checked Tidal and I've saved about 150 albums released in 2022. I'm going to have to give this some thought.
