It’s funny because using just standard cables, it’s more noticeable between them.Hi Jon my dealer recommended Atlas cables because they are well shielded. I swapped from Transparent after buying an SUT and they created some noise.
MC RichardMM or MC cartridge?
If the former, then low capacitance is vital. If the latter, extremely good screening and noise rejection is more important.
Yep, shielding and capacitance. Plenty out there The Project ones look sensible as are the Atlas as @DomT says.Depends how spendy you're feeling and whether you can DIY stuff really. Most should be decent enough though.
May be grounding via the phono cables. You may find that it actually increases the hum if you add a grounding wire. Ground loops and ground paths with phono stages can be a real pain, so if it's quiet, be happy!Yep, shielding and capacitance. It’s interesting as the Thorens TP92 arm (which is impressive) has five cartridge tags and one connects to the headshell.
Currently just using std VDH interconnects, there is zero hum which is surprising because I haven’t earthed the deck so the earth must be finding an alternative route 😊
This is true. Dedicated phono cables from turntables are slightly more complex but important to get right. I did earth between deck and amp and made no difference so all good thereMay be grounding via the phono cables. You may find that it actually increases the hum if you add a grounding wire.
