I can only help with one of those things at the moment but I am looking out for the other two and when I find them I'll let you know. After reviewing them thoroughly for you.

But now that I have your attention, this really could be of genuine importance to you.

So far every enquiry (with the exception of one unrelated to HiFi) I've had from wammers has been from people who love their HiFi and want it to be transported by someone who is conscious of its value and prepared to treat it with commensurate respect. Nobody has been time-critical about their collection or delivery. In fact, no-one has even been date-critical so far.

So here's a thought. Co-load with each other. You could announce on a dedicated thread that you want to send your amp, say, from Preston to London: does anyone want to share courier cost? If someone else has a CD player from Birmingham to London you might agree a 60:40 split. It would be easy to PM each other then ask me for a quote when you've agreed on something.

Price hypothesis. Kendal to Heathrow is 260 miles, I currently charge £220 + vat for a small van. Extra stops are £10 each plus the additional mileage. So, for example, Kendal to Uxbridge combined with Warrington to Chelsea (280 miles in total) would be £130 (plus VAT) each. That shortens the M6 quite a bit.

Not such a radical idea really. Load consolidation is nearly as old as the wheel; it's standard practice with Removal companies and Haulage contractors.

Good idea. Why don't all couriers think like you Lint?
We do need a fresh approach Alan. Our industry has been hit disproportionately hard with the recession. In common with the HiFi trade I suppose.

HiFi Trade?
  1. Yes
Anyone need a share in shipping to NZ? There's this pair of Turnberrys in the classifieds which have caught my impoverished eye... ;-)

In all seriousness, if this can be made to work, that would be excellent. We have an unspoken Wammers help Wammers policy with shipments, but it can't always work. An official solution would be great.

The shipping companies were way ahead of me on that one Graham. You can buy space in a container right down to quite a small fraction. Couriering or airfreighting to Europe is relatively easy too. Trying to move small stuff in the UK and to ROI is disproportionately difficult and expensive.

No-ones taken up with this idea yet. :nup: I still think it's a good one. if a pair of wammers shared cost of, say, a 150 mile journey the most it would cost is £75 + vat each, possibly a teeny bit less. If each had a pair of speakers or monoblocks that would be pretty much the cost of using regular parcel delivery.

Since starting this thread there have been a couple of instances where enquiries nearly, but not quite, could have been combined. feel free to contact me with towns or postcodes about any gear you are serious about ahead of purchase, I'll keep a book open to see if consolidated deliveries are possible.
