My retired electronics engineer friend showed me the inside of a Sugden Musicmaster Bijou class A amplifier to point out that the main power supply caps are unsecured to any pcb. They are in effect just floating only being held by their wired connections. No glue, not bolted or screwed, just hanging there. Is this factory or has someone been fiddling? Cheers.

Hard to see from the photos but doesn't look original. The caps need to be anchored in some way. I use M3 nylon hexagonal spacers with solder tags at the top to attach wires to. Just need to drill some M3 holes to fix them. The spacers come in various sizes and screw together. Rapid online have them.

Looks like someone has had a right go at it and not very professionally either. To me it's an utter bodge! If you look at the image I have attached (not of your amp, but a Sugden mono block) it gives you an idea of the workmanship of their kit. Apart from the caps why are the circuit baords not secured to anything? Also, one of the output transistor mounting bolts looks to be touching the PCB......avoid like the plague and run a mile from it!

Send off an email and enquire with sudden direct imo
Thanks, I just wondered what fellow wammers thought of the current layout. The caps are still good so no doubt my friend will secure them accordingly. Cheers.

The circuit boards are attached by means of the output transistors bolted to the large heat sinks as I remember. Thankfully it is not mine and is in for repair after it starting failing.
