After a couple of weeks of listening, I'm chuffed to say that the latest upgrades - USB to SPDIF convertor (free off Smegger68) to Thule PR350b with digital input, have been a resounding success. The Thule was good running off the Beresford 7520, but running its' own onboard DACs it's great.
I can't help but think that for the financially challenged, AV kit can represent serious value for money. The formats change so quickly that even top-end kit loses its' value relatively quickly when compared to pure audio equipment. The generation jumps in DVD (ie the release of Blu-Ray, then 3D DVD's) have meant that some very good DVD players - which can make very good CD transports - have come to market as second hand bargains too.
