If you have to choose (blind), than which one first…the source (DSM) or the amp?

DSM first. If you prefer to think of the DACs as source, then think of the DSM as the source of the source. Kind of like within an LP12, the bearing is the source, or higher up in the hierarchy.

I think I'd posted a link to the promotion that Linn ran when the Dynamik was introduced; buy one PS and get a second one for an already owned component for free. I'm thinking Linn will be doing this with the Utopik.

Surely, it doesn't matter what your setup is. The source first philosophy still holds good. Start upgrading at the left and work towards the right.

Hub > Exaktbox > Power Amplifier > Speakers
Hub > Integrated Exakt Speakers
DSM > Power Amplifier > Speakers
DS > Pre Amp > Power Amplifier > Speakers

That's partly the reason why I didn't Dynamik my Solos. At the time my system was :

DS > Pre Amp > Tunebox > Power Amplifier > Speakers

There was no Dynamik upgrade for the Tunebox, so I didn't go any further than the DS and Pre Amp.

If it was an Akurate Hub (mine's called an 'exact Only DSM) then I would upgrade the power supply with the most demand first - in my case the Ak EB-i (Kat). In my case though it is academic as I'm quite happy with my system as it is now! (and if I were to use a Utopik any where it would be on my Radikal). What would be wonderful for me would be if the Utopik could be made to work in my Kisto!! I've not seen a price for a PS upgrade yet - but I suspect that it is Uberkostly.

It’s 1350 for the Selekt. Expensive.

And a promotion would be a great gift from Linn (50th birthday). Fingers crossed indeed.

I'm sorry to have misled you as I did make a mistake. The Dynamik promotion was buy a component, such as a DSM, and get a free Dynamik for a component you already own. So not nearly as generous. But I would expect Linn to run a similar promo for the Utopik. In my case, maybe if I get an Ekstatik, I could get a free Utopik for the Radikal.

Wishful thinking indeed young man! 😉

Uberkostly then!! Cheaper way to 'upgrade' would be to buy a used KRDS/1 and run it through the ADSM Hub. The KRDS/1 significantly outperforms the Ak Hub (I have both) and I suspect will continue to outperform an Ak Hub with Utopik fitted. I also suspect that the current market value of an Akurate Hub is pretty close to £1300 itself!
