Will the Utopik power supply further increase the output of power amplifiers, when used in this connection?

https://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Dynamik

Specific to the Power Amplifier Dynamik

(Applies to Klimax Solo, Klimax Twin, Akurate/Majik/Chakra power amplifiers, Majik-I, Majik DSM, Classik Music, Classik Movie, Klimax loudspeakers, Akubarik, AV 2250/5125)

Increased Power

The Power Amplifier Dynamik Power Supply has a 30% increase in its RMS output power. This provides more power to the amplifier stages to enable the amplifier to control the drive units more effectively.

Faster Response

The control loops in Dynamik has been improved. This enables the power supply to react faster to changes in the music. In a power amplifier this reduces the ripple on the voltage rails which is a source of noise/distortion coherent with the music. Dynamik is our fastest switch mode power supply yet, making it an ever bigger improvement over traditional linear power supplies (which have no feedback from the secondary to the primary so they must rely upon storing power in banks of capacitors, which results in long signal paths which limit the product performance)

That would mean that Solos now have 650 W?!?… very unlikely.

My understanding is, that the power supply has 30 % more power. That does not mean that the amplifier has 30 % more power but more control.
Generally I would agree with this. In most cases I think that would be the case.

It really depends on whether the output power to the speakers is limited by the output stage or by the power supply. More often than not it is likely the current the output stage can put out that is the limiting factor, but there are exceptions including Lejonklou amps. At least in the Selekt DSM with Utopik there is no change in rated power from the amplifiers as far as I have seen.

At this point, I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out that Utopik was developed with the NG Klimax.
Moomintroll said:
"Interesting, but NG Klimax development was almost two years ago. A lot of electrons through the bridge in that time…"

I'm pretty sure that what they are calling Utopik was developed after the KDSMO. If they had it ready by then I'm sure they would have made a big deal about and given it the name back then.

Also the chip industry is constantly evolving and moves fast. The speed of switching and how it is done was a big part what was different on the Dynamik and is likely to contribute to the Utopik. So it is quite possible that some of the parts used weren't available when the latest KDS came out.

Note that there is more to the power supply than just the Dynamik or Utopik. Almost all the devices that use these power supplies also have additional power supply smoothing circuitry local to the audio components. I believe Linn talked about having individual capacitors for each of the flip-flops in the Organik circuit. So you can make improvements to the power supply within an audio device without necessarily changing the main SMPS (or transformer/rectifier/capacitor bank).

Spent the day at the dealer's yesterday and gleaned a bit of information. Apparently, the factory is busy building other products, and the Utopik upgrades are not going into production yet. Estimate was February, 2024. The good news is that the design isn't holding things up. It's a production issue. Also, I was told Utopik can be made to be smaller than Dynamik. So it should fit just about anywhere.

Linn should have no problem adapting Utopik for other future or present product lines, Linn has already proven that. For me, but maybe I'm wrong, it's just marketing, first it wants to sell all Selekt Edition and standard Selekt, then it will be available both clearly for new products and as an upgrade (Linn wrote it on the site!)

There could be a market timing element at play. But Linn make products to order. They have sold all 250 LP12-50s. So they need to make 250 of them. Also, 360s are selling well. I heard they took on a second cabinet maker. The factory is busy with some rather expensive orders. I'm not going to second guess how to run a factory and a business. :)

I have heard from 2 different Linn dealerships this week, that there are some LP12-50's available for sale, if anyone is interested.

For the right price, I can sell the one I have reserved 🤪

Linn has already sold 250 €50000 turntables; Ferrari is forced not to satisfy all customers to maintain its Status; Rolex can advertise important sporting events...the world is full of rich and we ""poor"" people cannot have Utopik!

Unfortunately, this is how the world works. Listen to Marillion's album "F.E.A.R." It rather tells the story of the order of things. Don't worry, it'll "trickle down" eventually. :)

I'm sure we "poor" people will get Utopik, once the production backlog of LP12 50 and Klimax 360 has been resolved.

in truth, both Rolex and Ferrari are achievable for "average earners". If you are not picky about the model a used Rolex is pretty affordable. A used Ferrari likewise (although whether you'd be able to afford the upkeep and maintenance is another matter :) ). Same for an LP12!

Space flights and superyachts however, now there's an entirely different matter :)
