Valve amp comparison.

Hi everyone. I currently use an Art Audio Concerto mk2 power amp. I am considering buying a Border Patrol P21. I'd appreciate any comments regarding wether this would be a significant, if any, improvement to sound. Cheers

It would probably be easier to write down your thoughts on the failings of your current system, detailing all of your system and then ask for recomendations as to which part of your system might benefit from change to suit the sound you are looking for. Then start going to bakes offs, listening to various kit and make your own decision in your own system/room.

Asking for comments on a swap of amps won't get you to hifi nirvana any time soon. :^

I'd have thought in a sympatheticly matched system the Border Patrol should be capable of improving on the ART in most areas but whether it sound better, worse or just different with your system is anyones guess until you list what your kit is and let us know what your trying to achieve.

You would need to Talk to Gary of Border Patrol about your system, especially if your using a pre amp as it may not be a good match, i very nearly bought a BP amp and luckily i asked Gary first as my pre would have been useless with it as it was an older very high gain BP amp i nearly bought. Gary is a decent guy and wont put you wrong.

As with most amplifiers of a certain pedigree the differences (if any) will be small. Since you are looking for an improvement over the very fine ART amp, what is it not doing for you? within which system?

Most importantly though, as pointed out by Paul above, is what you want to achieve. That being unlikely to be the same for us all. Can you get a home demo of the BP?
