Used to own a Nord Hypex Class D amp (NC500). I can certainly see why many people are turning to Class D nowadays given the advantages with energy efficiency and, in my case at the time, the size (certainly won't find a Class A amp pumping out the 400W that the Nord did into 8 Ohms in a box that size!).
Much as I enjoyed that amp, I do question Nord's marketing phrase on the website suggesting the amps are 'Class D with Class A sound'. There are some pretty obvious differences in the presentation of that amp to the (relatively limited granted compared with some of you fine folk) experience I have with SS Class A and valve amplification.
Thus why in the living room system, the Nord has gone and my Pass Labs is staying (for the time being at least!).
My interest in this hobby though, isn't to try and suggest one thing is better than the other, it is to try a variety of different technologies out and enjoy the different windows they provide to the music, for better or for worse. And then every once in a while, I might enjoy something so much I stick with it.
But it won't stop me carrying on exploring.
And thus, the current flavour of the moment to look into is a bit of valve SET fun and see where that leads me...
(persuaded largely by the fact that the 2 best systems I have pretty well ever heard, at the Audio Show Deluxe last weekend, both used valve amplification).

@hearhere - on your hifi budgets, you owe it to yourself to get a demo of the Engstrom ERIC Encore Monoblocks to see if they can't usurp your NAD amp
