'Stick to Me' was released in 1977 and is the third album recorded by Graham Parker and the Rumour. The album was originally recorded over a period of a month and featured lavish arrangements and a large string section. However, disaster struck at the mixing stage when it was realised that the 24 track master tapes were f**cked; the album had to be recorded again, and in the space of a week. A much scaled down version was recorded with Nick Lowe at the controls, this is the result.

I think that there is some great songwriting and playing on this, particularly the guitars of Brinsley Schwartz and Martin Belmont. The production has been variously described as 'grungy', but I like it just the way it is.

Hope that some of you find something to like here. :)

Spotify - It's there, but I seem to be too stupid to post a link. Could a kindly guru post it for me?

Know nothing at all about these Bm (never even heard of them) so really looking forward to giving it a spin; exactly what the WAC should be about.

Can it stir the natives into eloquent discourse? Lets hope so.

I once went through a phase of buying second hand Graham Parker albums, but didn't find this one. Spotify selection on Parker Graham Parker looking a bit better since I last looked, sadly still no Squeezing out Sparks, though. Graham Parker – The Up Escalator I really like.

A really great songwriter at best. Sometimes a bit too pub rocky.

Had a quick skip through and this sounds mostly good. Not sure about the cod reggae number. Thunder and Rain sounding excellent.

I can only remember hearing Parker's "Don't Ask Me Questions" on the steam powered wireless many moons ago. Also saw him do a session on TOGWT (from memory).

I quite liked it.

Not my usual fodder, but there are many exceptions to "my rules" in my collection, including Pub Rock. Kinda lookin' forward to it.

Just dug out my vinyl copy of this. Sleeve was a bit worn, so didn't hold out too much hope for the vinyl, but it's pristine :eek:j:

Inside the cover it still has the sheet of stickers!

Quite enjoyed listening to it again, I wouldn't call the production particularly "grungy" either. Good choice! My fave track - "The Heat in Harlem"

Always liked GP's vocals though. Saw them at Blackbushe in '78  (old sod, I know!)

Monday March 26th. 7.30pm

Standing £2.

Feckin great live band.

Which is why they brought out a live album, 3rd album in.

Nick Lowe's production method being "get it down fast & tart it up later"

I trawled record shops to get a copy of The Pink Parker, which had a stonking version of Hold Back The Night (Trammps)

Never did track one down.

He moved to the States, is still alive & has carved out a career to this day.

I like him best when he's sharp and new wave-y. So stuff like 'Thunder and Rain' (best track on here), 'Stick to Me' and 'Soul On Ice' I like.

I'm not so keen on the 'New York Shuffle'/'The Raid' type stuff. Jaunty and upbeat but too pedestrian and pub rocky. On something like

he did a sort of new wave-y pub rock which I prefer.Good version of 'Tear...'.

So it's yer typical Parker mix of the good and not so good on this.

Squeezing Out Sparks, The Up Escalator and Another Grey Area are better albums (as I remember - haven't played them for ages). But this is mostly a solid enough album. Workmanlike in a good way.

S'ok.

Nothing stand out but nothing objectionable either. Wouldn't listen to it again but pleasant enough background music.

I think this album could define the Middle of the Road genre.

Really hope Graham Parker never ever, ever gets to read that.

You could call his stuff shite & tell him he's a tosser & he'd be a tad pissed off.

But "defines Middle of the Road" ???

He'd be up for murder with extreme prejudice.
