I'm wondering about the different sizes of music collections here. I have 815 albums on my hard drive, and about a dozen vinyl records. It's a lot, considering how long it would take to listen to, and there's probably a lot there that I will never listen to again. How about you? How big is your collection, and how do you feel about it?

A large collection of LPs, CDs and tapes. I'm at the stage now I'm thinking of it all as my possessions being passed on when I kick the bucket. I have nothing else to pass on apart from some art materials and books. I don't worry about not playing it all again as all music was played when bought or recorded to tape.

I have over 1500 CDs boxed up in the garage. Got about 300 records in the house and about 200 in the garage. I rarely buy anything now other than the odd record from favored artists.

Getting a RPi and Qobuz has reinvigorated my listening and I see streaming as the future for me.

Cheers BB

Still got a few hundred LP’s left which haven’t seen much use recently. Mainly ripped CD’s and downloads from hard disc . 3851 albums with a running time of 3162 hours - should keep me busy for a while !

1500 odd LPs, 1000 odd CDs, streaming for background listening or investigating prior to buying. I need to work through my LPs because there are some I'm likely never to listen to.

About 2,000 LPs, probably 500 or so CDs, a few DVDs and Blu-Rays with high res. All digital has been ripped and the discs don't see any use unless I opt to play a 5.1 mix. Add to that a bunch of stuff I've ripped from friends or downloaded from the internet.

I used to have a lot of vinyl records, but some I've sold off as job lots or given away. Some are still in England. I have about 60-70 in the house, which are albums from classical or jazz labels that are harder to find or or out-of-print. There are some in the storage too, about 150. Quite a lot of CDs, mostly classical and jazz, but also pop/rock. Also an enormous hard-disk library of music of all types.

Forgive my ignorance, what's wrong with calling them vinyl?
I was pipped to the post by rdale...
Because we called them LPs, singles and 12 inch singles in the years before CDs arrived, but we didn’t usually call them ‘vinyl records’ and certainly not ‘vinyls’.
Indeed, 'vinyl' was a word that only spread from the end of the 80s - in my experience anyway. I only ever called them LPs or 'records'.
