Hello everyone -

I have been contemplating a major change in my music system which is not very complex to start with. It consists of a Linn LP12, Linn Selekt DSM, Melco music server and a McIntosh amp. The Melco is full of CD and DSD files and I no longer have a physical CD/SACD player. I am considering changing the system to comprise of just the Melco for file based playback, introducing a streaming service, and retiring vinyl playback.

The SDSM also handles playback for video based sources such as streaming services and 4k UHD from a Oppo-203. Curious what everyone else is doing these days.

100% streaming for me. Some 500 ripped albums on local NAS and Tidal. The share of Tidal is quite substantial. But I buy CDs every now and then if the title is unavailable on Tidal.

About 80% vinyl and 20% CD. I have Qobuz available which is handy as I use it to qualify possible physical media purchases. The idea of of streaming leaves me as cold as it ever did (the user experience is abysmal in my opinion - whats the fun in interfacing with music through a computer?), however using it to decide whether to spend money tracking down records or occasionally CDs is helpful.

Still primarily CD for me, though I do use Tidal for auditioning purposes and when I’m too lazy to dig out a disc! As I get older, I’m less inclined to make the effort of playing LPs except when it’s my only option.

Streaming ripped CDs, downloads and a few self recorded vinyl rips mostly - the turntable is boxed up under the bed and my Pro Walkman is bust !

Everything is on my Mac Pro - internet like YT, TV, CDs ripped to an external hard disc and Garageband files from my songwriting. I use iTunes with multiple playlists.

I listen three ways. One is deliberately for de-connection, playing from a large stock of vinyl (mostly classical and jazz, but also others) where I don't interact with a computer. It gives me an old-world feeling, where I can lie on the couch and maybe read the sleeve notes or just close my eyes and listen. Sometimes I play the album through a few times.

The second is listening to stuff I don't have. Checking out interesting things. It's through the computer and often I have no interest in it being 'hi-fi' quality, even though the computer is also set up for good audio. I'll use YouTube or anything just for that.

The third is my own digital music, from vinyl and CD rips and digital downloads. This is for when I'm working at home and can't keep attending to a turntable. I also sometimes play music like this if there are guests.

About 60% from 2 CD players. About 40% from 1 record player. My wife streams a bit from her phone to a Blue Tooth speaker which is actually ok.

Am having so much fun going through my ripped CDs on my Innuos that I have just bought about 25 CDs and some were brand new! Never thought that I would be writing that! I would say that my mix of sources changes depending on a number of factors. Excepting this year to be 33% LP 33% Ripped CDs and 33% streaming/internet radio/cassette

TBH, what we do is irrelevant. What you do is what’s important and preferred.

For the Record (intended pun), 70% Vinyl, 20% Streamer and 10% CD

RPi running MoOde, RPi running Volumio, Squeezebox, PC. Sources are from several NAS, VPN from studio, local PC, USB drives. CD's the combinations are endless!
No record deck though but the Nakamichi Dragon still rears it's fiery head when a few master tapes (MA-R) sneak there way from the archives.....
