Getting a few misreads on my CD player & the discs seem in good nick visually so as I've never used a lense cleaner before I just need pointing in the right direction for the best to use.

Thanks in adavance. MVJ

I used a CD type cleaner that you insert and press play. There is a little brush on the disc that I guess cleans the lens. Used to put a small drop of isopropyl alcohol on the brush..run a few times & wait 5 mins for it to dry.
It wasn't that expensive many moons ago. You can borrow it for a while if you wish.
Sometimes levelling the player/isolation can help ?

It might not be the lens, sometimes the runners for the laser sled can get a tad sticky and also cause misread problems. You used to be able to buy test CDs that included a start and end short track that you would program on repeat to make the sled run backwards and forwards, freeing it up. I have one somewhere and it was very effective, unfortunately I have no idea where it is atm.

Could I not just use the remote & open and close the draw or is it a different part of the mech your talking about?

Opening and closing the drawer will not do the same thing, what you want is for the laser mechanism to read the start and end of the disc repeatedly to free up any accumulation on the rails.

You may have to do quite a lot of disassembly to get to the laser lens and sledge. A CD with lots of tracks on it is good for moving the sledge. Just play the first and last track several times. The cd lens cleaner (Amazon or eBay £5-10) is the way to go, other than that it a needs expert repair.

The best CD lens cleaner is a cotton bud with some IPA on it (not the beer).

The lens cleaning discs are best avoided as the brushes can scratch the lens and make things worse.

In addition, the comments above about checking the path of the lens, especially if it runs on rails, are very pertinent. If these rails get at all rough then it can cause all sorts of disc read issues.

Rather than ipa try automotive glass cleaner on swabs or clean brush. Gteqniq G6 Perfect Glass is brilliant. I have used it on lens, specs, car glass of course, any thing piano black. and perplex Tt lids plus tone arm etc. it’s not expensive and it’s superiority over ipa is that it flashes off almost instantly, so zero residue.

Thanks for all the replies I bought a cd lense cleaner & ran it thru a few times and all is well so far👍
Well my CD player is still working perfectly since putting my new CD cleaner thru it so all the posts about it needing some adjustment or repairs/service look to be incorrect.

A good lense spring clean sorted it thankfully👌🏻
