Which sub should I try? Sealed enclosure or something completely different?

Im considering adding a sub to my system.

My new speakers are wonderful in every respect bar one, they are limited in their bass. I have no means of measuring but according to specs they have nothing of note below around 50hz.

The manufacturer created a sub to go with them which is a Nautilus horn loaded dual 8" affair with a 100w digital amp built in.

How do you think this would compare to say a BK XXLS400 which is a sealed unit 12" 400w amp?

I can get the Kochel sub to try but not a BK (unless someone close by has one they could bring round)

Cheers

Chris

It'll need to be nice and quick Chris. Obvs the Kochel would match well ... how is it price wise? I have a BK XLS200 and it's excellent. Kept up nicely with my Fostex based Cain and Cain super Abbys. I'd lend it to you for a listen but I've chucked the box so delivery would be tricky.

Very nice of you to offer Jake, thank you. Price wise it was originally £1050 but I can get it for around the same as a new BK 400 which is why I asked about comparing the 2. Shame you dont live closer.

Anyone one know about how the 2 would compare technically, which would be faster? Sealed or horn loaded?

you should state what you are going to use the sub for . Music or Movie

Someone with good knowledge will help

Correct me if I am wrong . The seal sub can not go deeper than the un-seal one. However , the seal can perform fast/ quicker that the music

Also some factors need be learnt:

position- location the sub, crossover setting, High or Low level connection, front or down fire, marble plinth vibration, spike or not , room correct built-in or external one, software+microphone + SPL to check the cabliration graphic,

Intergrating factor, active- passive Xover, room treatment , .... Still a lot more to learn
