My system is once again silent.

Beer has the distinct advantage that it might go off a bit, but there has never, ever been a case where I have opened a bottle and found it to be empty. The hi-fi system, on the other hand, on occasion decides that silence is the order of the day. Whilst I can fix this with the application of yet another pile of diodes and the soldering station, this is not my idea of bliss.

Sometimes, this stuff sucks the big one.

A little bit of Led Zep would have sorted my mood out perfectly. Unfortunately, some silence seems to be the only option. Fuses changed, cables swapped. Dead 845 is the result. At 10:00 pm on a Friday night, I shall resort to the AV system. Onkyo plus B&W does not good music make. However, it does music make. Consistently. So some Jeff Back will be done. It will be done loud. Balls to hi-fi.

I will NEXT Friday night. When I will be off this diet and therefore able to HAVE a few beers. I've only had one since ADPully's bake-off which now feels like it was somewhere back in the mid Cretaceous :x . And I've spent most of the day out in the workshop fiddling with a PA amp from about 1950. When it was playing music it did indeed sound pretty good. But when it wasn't you could hear an irritating hum from it and I still haven't nailed the source, although I have backed it into a pretty tight corner ...
