Looks to be an ideal way to add some streaming and appears to be well supported by the developers. Also, budget friendly.

I’m interested in trying one, it’s CD quality max from the onboard DAC as far as I can tell so I am also interested in any hires DAC suggestions to go with that budget friendly ethos.

Looks to of interest but no pictures of how you get SPDIF out from the unit must be some sort of connection but neither mentioned or shown . Would think certainly that getting a connection to to an outboard DAC would give more consistent and improved sound and using some thing like the Allo DAC in the current classifieds would be cost effective to get a nice streaming digital source.

Thanks. It is optical out only. It needs a DAC that takes SPDIF input. Not sure about that one in classifieds? It’s all new to me, I’ll do some research. Link below shows the interfaces. USB is power only.

On your link, click on 'feature' (top right) to bring up reviews, including ones from Hans and Simon (13th Note).
Apparently optical out is limited to 16/48 until a planned, future firmware update.
And, though the internal DAC goes above, the analogue line out is nothing special (according to Hans).

Yes. Reading the release notes they are now doing bit perfect optical 24/192. I’m on Amazon music which they’re supporting at UHD imminently. Looks like the developments are about playing the stream directly out while the app remotely controls proceedings.

Might buy nut’s DAC in the classifieds in readiness. Looks all you need if it supports 24/192.

Hi All. First post here - Hello

Yup, Ive been running a WIIM for a couple of months now through SPDIF into a SMSL SU-9n DAC. Purchased because of its TIDAL Connect capabilities. This is my first foray into streaming into my set up, always used CD / Vinyl previously.

The WIIM appears to get a little confused when browsing tracks too quickly, sometimes. Nothing a shutdown & restart doesn't sort, but has been a niggle.

Not quite at CD standard as yet, however I am still trying settings on the DAC. But as far as I'm concerned, pretty damn close.

I think it’s a great little device - I’ve been using the beta firmware for over a month to test bit perfect lossless Amazon Music HD & UHD tracks (amazon’s parlance for 16 and 24bit respectively) using both the WiiM app and casting to it using the more feature rich Amazon Music app (not aware of any other device that can do the latter). I take the optical spdif into my Linn MDSM/4 and it sounds good all the way up to 24/192 - it’s the device I’ve been waiting for especially as Linn (amongst others) are not making much progress with Amazon Music.

I think that’s the summary I was looking for. Thanks. I can’t see any other solutions for Amazon that lets you use the native app and stream at full quality. I’m on Sonos so that does it at UHD the other way round, from the Sonos app. It’s kinda OK till I can source a DAC or DAC equipped amp in keeping with my budget.

So, I've got an issue with my WIIM Mini & Tidal Connect Atmos tracks.

I'm set up so the Wifi connects direct to the Mini, & I use my phone as a controller.

All works great, until I try am Atmos album. (Some music only appears to be Atmos with no alternative format available). My DAC advises no signal received. However, the Atmos album does play over Airplay - which is obviously less than ideal.

I though Tidal would automatically play another - non Atmos - file format of the album. But alas, no.

Any idea's?

Has anyone used Qobuz on this device? I prefer Qobuz to Tdal but having problems on my Node since an update.

Atmos is an surround sound codec and needs the DAC to accept multi channel information even if that is then truncated to stereo . So in this card the issue is not the streamer but your DAC as often they will not accept a multichannel signal .

Airplay does not use Atmos but converts the signal to PCM sent wireless at the rate it designated which I think is about CD level .

This looks like it might be a good alternative, Linkplay Tech seem to have spotted the gap in the market left by the Chromecast.
