I was looking for a cheap CD player so I could dig my CDs out of the loft and found this bargain on FB Marketplace. £25 for a Denon 100W Amp, CD and cassette player, always wanted a nice little second system for the office. Hooked them up to a pair of Kef CS1a that have been sitting unused since I moved the main system to actives.

And now I get to play my teenage cassettes. Anyone for a heavy pause button 1981 top 40 chart compilation?!

Got me thinking, what's the best bargains other Wammers have found?

I did see a bloke with these huge DIY speakers at the Wam show, I felt sorry for him having to cart them home so I was going to offer him a tenner to break them up, but was to busy to get round to it.

That's some serious bargains, the Leak stands out in particular.

Undoubtedly a job lot of 30 Quad II valve amps from a factory, very cheap. Most of them had line output transformers, not the standard 8 ohm types. So I went up to the Quad factory and bought a large quantity of their standard output transformers. They were pretty mystified as to why, but sold them to me nevertheless.

I fitted them with Russian output tubes and sold them for about £250 a pair. Got rid of the lot!

My best ‘bargain‘ ….was getting the MF A370 monster power amp on eBay fir £650 ….went to collect and the young lad that owned it was living with his Nan - who told him to give me ‘that other bit’ then it was ‘all got rid off’ etc …….only the matching MF preamp ! Crazy but was bought without hearing it run too 🫣

Sold it on eBay a few weeks later for almost 50% of what I paid for the power amp 😁

Hard to beat the £750 I paid for a new/opened AT Art 9 off eBay.
It was in Fareham, close to Chichester, and I drove there and knocked on the door. A young lady came to the door, with her mum behind her in the dining room and explained that her father had sadly died before he had a chance to fit it and the mother shouted out 'its never been used'.

I went home and was the sole bidder.
When I collected the cart I saw that the mounting gear packet was still sealed, and the thing took an age to bed in. So I trusted the seller and it paid off, and the doubters missed a bargain.

Jack
Its a cracking cartridge too..
