Is that a doggy nappy on Roxy? Interested to hear your results; we've started trying the same with our pair of elderly labs. Mixed results...
Don't want to derail the thread from its primary importance, i.e. wonderful photos of our fur families, but this could help others too, so...
Yes, Roxy is sporting her stylish cactus knickers in that photo. She has more underwear than I do! I think she's up to 26 pairs at the moment, and we get through them at a rate of knots. Poor girl, it's an age thing, she has no idea when she needs to go so if I don't remember, it's accident time.
Prior to buying her undies, we used to wash the dog bed covers, snuggle blankets and the dog on a daily basis, and it was exhausting and demoralising, both for us and for her. We tried the hormone replacement tablets, Incurin, and they worked for a while but over about 18 months they gradually lost their efficacy, so I stopped giving them to her (I would rather not medicate for the sake of it). So knickers were almost the last resort. I tried a pack of disposable to begin with to see how we got on - they seemed to work OK but I couldn't justify the amount of waste they generated, given how fast we got through them. So reusable ones were the way forward.
I have to say that they make life so much easier, the fit is pretty good - having a slim belly means there tends to be a bit of a gap underneath but as a girl that's not so much of an issue as the "wet bits" are further back. Might be different for a boy. They are nice and soft, well-padded where it's needed, and they wash up really well. They can be washed up to 90 degrees without problems. I usually rinse and leave them soaking in a disinfectant solution until they are ready to be laundered, and I used good old Napisan in the wash with them. The only issue I've had with a couple of batches is that the velcro has frayed around the edges after repeated washing, and has needed to be re-stitched. An easy fix.
I buy most of them from an Amazon seller called
Pet Magasin - there are so many of these sellers you're almost spoiled for choice but I picked this one almost at random and seemed to get lucky. I've also bought some rather fetching ones in a faux denim pattern from
Joy Daog (awful name!) - we call them Roxy's "Daisy Duke" knickers and they look really cute. The straps are also slightly longer which does help with the fit.
I'd say stick with them on your dogs, it's worth persevering as they do make life easier.
Here's she is in her Daisy Dukes tonight:
And here's the collection!
There's blue, purple & lime green colours, and also more muted hues of black, grey and brown if you prefer
