On the lookout for a 70’s Herman Miller Eames Chair and Ottoman, Black with Rosewood. Goes without saying - must be in fabulous condition, no dints, tears etc. Thanks for looking. M.

I sat in an original 60’s HM Eames chair yesterday - just debating wether or not to buy - I’m dithering!!

Couple of points, first,
35 grand is taking the piss!
Be careful with that website, these chairs for example are copies. Copies never last and are not as comfy. And, in the UK, illegal to sell.
I have two Eames chairs, although only one in use, and they are glorious things to sit in! The official European ones are made only by Vitra , it's Herman Miller for the states and there are tiny differences, in particular with the base, but in practice it's no different.
If your set on a HM, MOMA in New York do it to members (£110) for £6336 plus £460 shipping to UK. £7500 is a good price! Link
In the UK, Utility are good, I bought mine from them, and often have 15% off sales. Outside the sales, pretty much every retailer will charge RRP, currently circa £8900.
They are not indestructible, so if you do buy an older chair this company in Germany are good for spares.
Oh, and if you do get one, will will soon fall into the rabbit hole of mid century furniture, and it's a wonderful but pricey place!

I imported one about 20 years ago from Canada, from a company called Gabriel Ross - they are still HM dealers - think I paid about £1700 with all fees - HM did try to stop grey imports at one point, due to vitra holding the Europe licence - perhaps its changed now - not sure of the Canadian dollar rate, but could be cheaper from there -

I had a pair of copies of these some years ago, Glad I moved them on they were very uncomfortable, especially if you a are a big person, so do not be tempted by the copies, real ones I do not know about, but you will most certainly need deep pockets. And that is, if you can find them, Good luck in your search.

We have a replica, the Rosewood is really good, leather (if it is leather!!) us crap!
The 70’s HM I’ve got my eye on is in good condition - zips and leather all good, though Rosewood is a little faded. It’s £7k. Much to think about.

Just fancy an older, rather than modern Eames. The chair I was after has sold, so back to square one!

A modern version will be exactly the same as one from the 70's, but better foam, and a better bearing in the chair. You can also get a version that is 2" taller if your on the tall side
