As above! I've heard some snippets of the "Neon Bible" album, as well as the entirety of the track "Intervention" and liked it.

However, I'm still not sure and inevitably if i buy an album on impulse having heard only one or two tracks, it usually turns out to be cack. (whereas the ones i decide to wait until i've heard alot more of turn out to be brilliant

)

So, anyone got it? Any thoughts?

If you liked Funeral, you should like it.

Bit more mainstream, to my ears, but not bad at all. As you found Intervention to your liking the rest should be OK.

Yet another disappointing second album, IMO.

OK, it's not total cack like the Killers one, but nowhere near as good as Funeral IMO.

So, Adam, was that helpful?

`S OK; it's disappointing; and it's pants.

Any advance on that?

Played it in the car and couldn't really hear it well enough to grasp it. "needs High Fidelity" I thought..

Turns out it's just shite.

OK, to go against prevailing opinion - I like it
biggrin.png

Bear in mind it is more mainstream in sound than the first album. Most reviews have referred to a 'Springstee' element in their sound, I didn't really hear that in the first album however it certainly is there on this one.

So, if you don't mind a more mainstream, accesible album and if you have no objection to a Springsteenesgue quality at times, go for it.

Hope that helps

Kevin

A qualified thumbs up from me.

Perhaps not quite as good as Funeral but still one of the btter albums I've heard this year.

Which kind of Springsteen? the early cosmopolitan funky jazzyone, or the later heartland rock one?

Ah, should have mentioned this is my first experience of AF - never heard anything from "Funeral".

Does this make things easier or complicate them further?!!

P.S. - Kevin - great avatar!

If you haven't heard them before........hmmmmmmm

Suggest that you will need to like Indie in the first place - Echo & Bunnymen or more recent stuff like British Sea Power or possibly Editors.

It's nothing like any of the above
biggrin.png
- however, picture Springsteen-type rock seen through that sort of Indie haze??? Not sure I am making any sense here. I suppose, if you like the names I have mentioned, give it a go.

Thanks re the avatar - must admit I had visions of Clothy.....

OK, after a few more listens and the live performance at Glasto I've done a complete U-Turn on this album - it's great!

Maybe it doesn't grab the attention as immediately as Funeral, but it's a grower that really rewards repeated listening.

Bought it yesterday. Carefully removed the shrink wrap and stuck it on the TT last night. Got to side 4 and managed to catch it just before it totalled my stylus. Huge scratches across the surface as well as what looked to be a moth or bug pressed into one of the tracks
