CODE ACOUSTICS
An independent British Hi-fi company specialising in active loudspeakers.

SYSTEM-1 from the outset was always going to be an active 3-way DSP speaker. The reasons for this are explained in our previous blog:

‘Why don’t you just make a passive bookshelf speaker like everyone else?’

Beyond this we set ourselves the following requirements:

  • The sound system should perform well in small to medium sized rooms
  • Be physically fairly compact
  • Capable of playing at ‘realistic’ volume levels with low levels of distortion
  • Have an extended bass response
We also wanted to use the very best components and cabinet construction. This meant the bill-of-material (BoM) cost would be high, but we also wanted to make the speaker available to as many people as possible, so we targeted a price of around £6.5k .

The only way to make this possible would be to sell direct, but this suited our philosophy of having a close relationship with our customers, so we decided to proceed.

Look interesting and probably sound great but noticed the date on the website and it’s 2017 - this is the first time I’ve come across them so not sure how well they’re doing?

They exhibited at the Wam Northern Hifi Show in Harrogate during October 2017. Kit was very good - pretty sure the owner was a member on the Wam at one time too

The company behind this name was Klaxon Audio Ltd. Compulsory struck off at Companies house during Feb '22. Looks like they did not file their accounts etc. Last accounts (in 2019) showed a company worth only £3k.

see this link.

Be interesting to see if Ceri Thomas brings his products back in a different form.

Well researched! I checked the address, and it was a serviced office building near Guildford High Street, so it didn’t promise well. As you say, maybe the designer is somewhere else now?

To be fair it's a large "active 3-way DSP speaker"

The passive 3-way Harbeth M40.2s cost £17.5k, the active 3-way ATC SCM100 ASLTs £20k.
