Linn Akurate DS (2007) with Linn Majik Kontrol Preamp

Hello all,

Thinking about buying a Linn Majik Kontrol Preamp to connect with a Linn Akurate DS for my office, what do you think? Can we consider that as an upgrade?

Today the Akurate is directly connected to an old Linn LK140 and a pair of Gato FM15 bookshelf speakers.

Do you need a preamp to plug other sources into? If not, stay with what you have.

Does your DS have the Dynamik power supply and Katalyst DAC upgrades?

That's the point: I don't need a preamp to stream but if I want to add a turntable that's impossible...

Just wondering if I get the Majik Kontrol - more than having other inputs available - I'd also get a better preamp (is Akurate integrated preamp really better than the Majik Kontrol standalone?)

P.S: no Dynamik on Akurate (2007 version).

How about replacing the entire kit with a Majik DSM? One with Dynamik might even sound better, and would include a power amp upgrade.

It’s been a very long time since I heard a Majik Kontrol, but would be surprised if it improved the Akurate DS. Others may have recent experience. However, as you say, if you wish to add a turntable then you do need a pre-amp. Have you considered upgrading your DS to a DSM? (I see @akamatsu beat me to it)

That would be my assessment. My recent experience with a /3, which is sonicly the same as a /2, led me to this. The newer stuff just sounds better.

Plus a theoretically gruntier, snappier, amp, and potential for Exakt.

Thank you all. As I said, I was just curious if a dedicated Majik Kontrol could be better than the preamplifier session from the Akurate and get a nice one which is available near me at very good price.

Maybe time to consider other alternatives.

I think I would rather get the Dynamik power supply for the DS than the Majik preamp. Or, as others here have suggested, get a Majik DSM/2 or 3.
