Ok will be doing some digging at the hifi show on the turntable front but this one's really a nuts and bolts question. In a cdp the lasers the baby and has been known on some players to last 10,15 even 20 years. How long does a needle last:Not Sure:. Considering that some of you boys must have carts over the £1000 pound mark whats the longevity like.

I'm a tight get, I only use denon's and it's cheaper to dump than re tip, if you are chucking big money at carts then you can have them re tipped. Someone will doubtless come along and say they have used one for 40 years or something. They wear, they can wear unevenly, if they do they shag your vinyl- 1000 or whatever albums, say £12 a pop (average) how much mangled vinyl do you need?

My £655 cartridge will last four years, but with this level of cost upwards you do get a trade in value ? I think with Clearaudio its about 30% so I should get £150 off my next cartridge and of course having been around 20 odd years I am sure in 4 years they will still be going........ even if I am not :rofl:Ortofon also do trade in

Yes sorry, forgot the trade in bit, a lot do, even denon give something like 15 off the next 70 cart you buy if you send the old one back.

That was this year. Before it was a Linn K18. Dynavector has 10 years to go

This little baby plus a deck may be all i need. Anyway think i'm going to start saving . Gonna be a way off yet but i'll need your help when the time comes.

forget years... it's meaningless. You need to know how many hours of play.

I play about 2 albums a day, 5 days a week =700 hours a year. At that rate I reckon 5 years minimum. 5000 hours (7 years) isn't unknown.
