I have to think a little longer when looking at B&W speakers because with the brand, the lower numbers are the larger speakers. So a 606 standmount is larger than a 607. As for Fyne Audio, Q Acoustics and Harbeth, confusing or what?

Yea, I think with B&W speakers, the “100” number represents the model range, & that is logical in that the 700 range is above the 600’s & the 800’s are above the 700’s.
So far, so good.
Then it gets a bit confusing as the “units” number runs backwards. The 702’s are above the 704’s.
No idea why, but I’m guessing there must be a reason somewhere.

It's not that uncommon. Look at photo cameras, a Canon 1 is the top tier, then a 5, a 50, a 500. Same with Nikon or Fuji.

What about B&O and their penchant for re-using model numbers?!

As examples, there were two completely different ‘Beomaster 5000’ models, two ‘Beogram 1500’ units and no less than FOUR ‘Beogram 3000’ models from the 1960s to the 1980s!

It can make giving parts or servicing advice a bit tricky…
