Hi. Has anyone heard EAR valve amps and compared them to other makes with similar specs? Specifically, I would be interested to know if anyone has heard the 834 integrated. I cant find too much info on the web but have heard they are very good.
I had an 834 integrated years ago. It was a joy to own on sonic and aesthetic terms. I don't think you can be disappointed with this gear, as always it's down to the presentation you want. But, bottom line, gorgeous sounding and looking.
I had an EAR 869 years ago and it was a lovely thing to own. The most trouble free valve amplifier I have ever owned.
One thing to note is EAR amps are not warm sounding in the slightest and certainly don’t fit the usual valve stereotypes in terms of presentation.
Tim had one foot in the professional audio market and it shows with his domestic amps - not it saying this is a bad thing. Just something to be aware of.
