Was listening to Richard and Linda Thompson on the way home and just wondered... what's your favourite five all time sad songs... you know, the ones you play when she's left you, everyone hates you and all that?

Mine would be

R&L Thompson: 'My dreams have withered and died'

Jackson Browne: 'Late for the sky'

Leonard Cohen: Bird on a wire'

Otis Reddin: 'Try a little tenderness'

Love: 'Wise old man'

Sorry Rockmeister I can’t get it down to just five, it was bad enough getting it down to these (Why is there no embarrassed emoticon when you need one)

DOn't you mean, try not to breath, Hawk? I always think everone hurts is overplayed. Let Me In, on Monster is good.

Blue by Joni Mitchel is really moving.

Can You Forgive Her by The Pet Shop Boys is sad to me as it reminds me of an ex (fucking cow that she was).

Its a fair point Sony, and i dont disagree... But i was moved by Everyone Hurts when it was played live at Glasto a couple of years back.. It changed the way i felt about the song big stylee as it also coincided with some very bad news... I guess its more association than the song itself..

For me, sad songs are always associated with 'things'... everytime I play Jackson Browne,'late for the sky' visions of a certain woman swim into view!
